Can Free EBooks Make You Rich?

Just last week I received an e-mail from a customer who said she was making around $1,000 per week with her eBook publishing business. I was thrilled to hear this, and asked her for more details. Well, it turns out she doesn’t actually sell her eBooks. To my amazement, she followed the advice I gave her and she experimented with giving away her electronic books in exchange for a name and e-mail address. In other words, people would arrive at her various websites and be asked to provide a name and e-mail address in exchange for receiving a free copy of the publication.

So how the heck was she making any money? Turns out she had embedded affiliate links within the pages of the eBook, and would also send them e-mail messages promoting “free” trials of other products and services that related to the topic of her eBooks. I asked her for permission to reveal her niche market, and she agreed because it’s such a massive market. She gives away medical and health related electronic books and then follows up with cost-per-acquisition offers that pertain to health and wellness.

Now you might be scratching your head and wondering why everyone doesn’t do this. Well, it’s actually a strategy that can sometimes backfire. People often assume that if you’re giving something away for free, it must be completely worthless. So don’t run out and start giving away your content. But at least this should give you some ideas about how you can make even more money now and in the future.
